Winter Woes

Winter just keeps hanging on!

We've spent the winter hunkered down and going through the daily routine of feedings and keeping pens warm and dry here on the homestead. It feels like this winter has been particularly cold. We've had more snow and ice this year than in recent memory. It sure makes for quite a bit of extra work.

We've had little teases of warmth and sunshine here and there, just to be quickly dashed by a snow storm blowing through. We are chomping at the bit to get our garden in, but since it decided to snow again today, it looks like that pesky groundhog wasn't kidding when he said winter would be sticking around.

We might not be able to start tilling and getting the seeds in the ground just yet, but we can get the ball rolling on our Spring processing! We are currently taking deposits for our April Pork processing and our hens are back in full egg production! Signs of spring are peaking through and I am so happy that eggs in the nest boxes every day are the first to start. There really is nothing like farm fresh eggs from our happy hens.

If you've never had farm fresh eggs or meat, let me tell you! It is some of the most scrumptious eats you'll ever have. The flavors are so vibrant and delicious and that is the honest truth!

Ground Breaking

This old house has stood here on our land since 1910. The history within these walls and around this property intrigue me. I wish I could press a button and get a little glimpse into the past that unfolded here.

There are few things in life that leave a huge impact on more than just ourselves. It's what grows into our legacy. Our personal story. What made us who we are.
